The weight of two identical suitcases is equal to the weight of two identical backpacks and a bag. Find out the weight of the suitcase if the weight of the backpack is 8 kg, and the weight of the bag is 4 kg.

Let’s denote by the unknown variable X the mass of one suitcase, by the unknown variable Y – the mass of the backpack, and the mass of the bag will be taken as the unknown variable Z, then, knowing that the mass of two identical suitcases is equal to the mass of two identical backpacks and a bag, we make the equation:

2 * X = 2 * Y + Z

Let’s solve the equation, since we know that the mass of the backpack is 8 kg, and the mass of the bag is 4 kg:

Y = 8

Z = 4

2 * X = 2 * 8 + 4

2 * X = 16 + 4

2 * X = 20

X = 20/2

X = 10

Answer: The weight of the suitcase is 10 kilograms.
