The width of the rectangle is 40% of its perimeter and the length is 0.5 cm. Find the area of the rectangle.

To complete this task, you need to create an equation. The perimeter of a rectangle is twice the sum of its length and width. Let’s denote the perimeter of the variable – P. To find the percentage of the number, you need to multiply this number by the number of percent, and divide the result by one hundred. Then the width of the rectangle will be equal to P * 40/100 = 0.4P. Knowing that the length is 0.5 cm, we make an equation.

2 * (0.5 + 0.4P) = P;

1 + 0.8P = P;

1 = P – 0.8 P;

1 = 0.2P;

P = 1 / 0.2 = 5.

Knowing that the perimeter is 5, we calculate what the width value is.

5/2 – 0.5 = 2.5 – 0.5 = 2 cm.

Let’s calculate the area of the rectangle.

S = 2 * 0.5 = 1 m².

Answer: 1 m².
