| Let’s denote the width of the rectangle by the letter X. Then its length will be equal to X + 6, since it is 6 cm more than the width. As you know, the perimeter of a rectangle is equal to the sum of twice the width and twice the length. Accordingly, we can write the following expression:
2 x X + 2 x (X + 6) = 88;
4 x X + 12 = 88;
4 x X = 76;
X = 19 (cm).
We found the width. Now we can easily find the length of this rectangle:
19 + 6 = 25 (cm).
Answer: The length of the rectangle is 25 cm and the width is 19 cm.
