The wire 456 m long was cut into three parts, the first part being 4 times longer, in the second one 144 m longer than the third. Find the length of each piece of the wire.

Let’s say the third part of the wire is x.
Since the first one is 4 times longer, it was: 4 * x meters.
The length of the second wire will be: x + 144.
We get the equation of the sum.
4 * x + x + x + 144 = 456.
6 * x = 456 – 144.
6 * x = 312.
x = 312/6 = 52 m (length of the third part of the wire).
4 * x = 4 * 52 = 208 m (length of the first part of the wire).
x + 144 = 52 + 144 = 196 m (length of the second part of the wire).
Answer: 208, 196 and 52 meters respectively.
