There are two acid solutions, one 20%, the other 30%. We took 0.5 kg of the first and 1.5 kg of the second solution and formed a new solution. What is the acid concentration in the new solution?

1) 0.5 kg of 20% acid contains dry matter:

0.5 kg – 100%,

x kg – 20%,

x = 0.1 kg.

2) 1.5 kg of 30% acid contains dry matter:

1.5 kg – 100%,

x kg – 30%,

x = 0.45 kg.

3) Total dry matter 0.55, total acid 2 kg.

4) C = (0.55 / 2) * 100% = 27.5%.
