M (BaCl2) = 208.3 g / mol;
M (BaSO4) = 233.3 g / mol;
M (H2SO4) = 98 g / mol.
Let’s determine the amount of starting materials:
Y (BaCl2) = m / M = 10.4 / 208.3 = 0.05 mol (deficient substance);
Y (H2SO4) = m / M = 9.8 / 98 = 0.1 mol (substance in excess);
Y (BaSO4) = 0.05 mol since the amount of these substances is 1 mol.
Calculations are made for the substance in deficiency.
We find the mass of the sediment:
m (BaSO4) = Y * M = 0.05 * 233.3 = 11.67 g
Answer: the mass of barium sulfate is 11.67 g
