To 200 g of a 4% – percent solution of soda, 5 g of soda was added. Determine the mass fraction of the substance in the resulting solution.
Determine the mass of soda in the original solution.
m (soda) = m (solution) • W (soda) / 100% = 200 • 4/100% = 8 g.
The mass of soda after adding 5 g of soda = 13 g.
The mass of the resulting solution = 200 + 5 = 205 g.
Accordingly, the mass fraction of soda in the final solution.
W (soda) = 13/205 • 100% = 6.3%.
