To 200 g of a 40% salt solution, 300 g of water was added. What is the concentration of the salt solution?

Let’s calculate how much salt is contained in 200 g of a 40% salt solution. To do this, we will compose and solve the proportion:

100% – 200 g;

40% – X g.

Where from:

X = 200 x 40/100;

X = 80 (g).

Now let’s calculate the percentage of the solution, into which 300 grams of water was added. There will be the same amount of salt, and more water:

500 g – 100%;

80 g – Y%.

Where from:

Y = 80 x 100/500;

Y = 16%.

Answer: after adding 300 grams of water to the solution, the salt concentration in it became 16%.
