| To 250 grams of a 20% solution was added 120 grams of a 10% solution. Find the mass of the resulting solution, the mass of salt in the resulting solution.
Given:
m (first solution) = 250 g
m (second solution) = 120 g
w% (salts in the first solution) = 20%
w% (salts in the second solution) = 10%
To find:
m (final solution) -?
m (salt) -?
Decision:
1) Find the mass of the solution after draining:
m (solution) = 250 g + 120 g = 370 g;
2) Find the mass of salt in both solutions:
m (salts in the first solution) = 250 g * 0.2 = 50 g;
m (salts in the second solution) = 120 g * 0.1 = 12 g;
3) Find the mass of salt after draining the solutions:
m (salt) = 50 g + 12 g = 62 g;
Answer: m (salt) = 62 g; m (solution) = 370 g.
