| Let’s write the reaction equation:
S + O2 = SO2.
Let’s find the amount of reactants:
v (S) = m (S) / M (S) = 160/32 = 5 (mol),
v (O2) = V / Vm = 56 / 22.4 = 2.5 (mol).
According to the reaction equation, 1 mole of S reacts with 1 mole of O2.
However, by condition, O2 is taken in a deficit (2.5 mol per 5 mol S).
Therefore, the calculation is carried out for O2: 2.5 mol SO2 is obtained from 2.5 mol of O2.
Then, v (SO2) = 2.5 (mol) and the mass of sulfur dioxide:
m (SO2) = v (SO2) * M (SO2) = 2.5 * 64 = 160 (g).
