Traits of adaptability to the flounder habitat.

After hatching from the eggs, the sea flounder resembles an ordinary fish and is unremarkable, however, as it matures, its body begins to transform (metamorphosis occurs). Since the flounder spends most of its adult life at the bottom of the ocean, its body contracts, becomes flat, both eyes move to one side. The side where both eyes are placed is at the top when the fish burrows into the bottom sand. These changes are likely to reflect an adaptation to a lifestyle rather than to the environment.
