Two cars drove out simultaneously towards each other from two points, the distance between which is 600 km

Two cars drove out simultaneously towards each other from two points, the distance between which is 600 km, and met 5 hours later. One of them was driving 16 km. faster than the other. Determine the speed of the cars.

Method 1:
Let’s find the speed of convergence of cars:
1) 600: 5 = 120 (km / h)
2) Let’s denote by x km / h the speed of one of the cars, then the speed of the other will be (x + 16) km / h:
x + (x + 16) = 120
2x + 16 = 120
2x = 104
x = 52.
3) 52 + 16 = 68 (km / h) – speed of the second car

Method 2:
Because one of the motorists was driving faster than the other, which means that in 5 hours he traveled more distance by:
1) 16 * 5 = 80 (km)
So they traveled the rest of the way the same:
2) 600 – 80 = 520 (km)
3) 520: 2 = 260 (km) – the distance of the car that was driving slower
4) 260: 5 = 52 (km / h)
5) 52 + 16 = 68 (km / h) – speed of the second car
Answer: vehicle speeds are 52 km / h and 68 km / h.
