Two identical squares, each 36 cm2, were folded to form a rectangle. What is the perimeter of this rectangle.

1) Since the sides of the square are equal, we can find what the sides of the two initial squares are equal to:

√36 = 6 (cm) – side of the square.

2) Squares with sides of 6 cm were placed side by side and thus a rectangle with a length of 12 cm (6 + 6 = 12) and a width of 6 cm was obtained.

Find the perimeter of the resulting rectangle:

P = 12 + 12 + 6 + 6 = 36 (cm) – the perimeter of the resulting rectangle;

Answer: the perimeter of the rectangle is 36 cm.
