| Two material points simultaneously begin to move along the OX axis. The law of motion of the first point x1 = 10 + 4t (m), the second x2 = 4 + 6t (m). Determine at what point in time and at what point on the trajectory they will meet.
Let’s compose a system of equations that simulates the motion of both points:
x1 = 10 + 4 * t
x2 = 4 + 6 * t
At the meeting point x1 = x2. We solve the equation:
10 + 4 * t = 4 + 6 * t
6 * t – 4 * t = 10 – 4
2 * t = 6
t = 3
The dots will meet in three seconds.
Meeting point coordinates:
x = 4 + 6 * t = 4 + 6 * 3 = 22 meters.
