Two small identical metal balls are charged with 6q and -2q charges.

Two small identical metal balls are charged with 6q and -2q charges. The balls were brought into contact and spread to the same distance. Are their charges steel?

Q1 = 6 q;

Q2 = – 2 q;

When in contact, the charges of both bodies are combined. Their total charge will be equal to the sum of the charges on each of the bodies, we get that:

Q = Q1 + Q2 = 6 q + (- 2 q) = 4 q;

2. Now the charge spreads evenly over both bodies. One body gives up a part of its positive charge, compensating for the negative charge of another, redistributing the “extra” charge to a less charged body. When they are spread apart, they will have equal charges. We get:

Q “1 = Q” 2 = 4 q: 2 = 2 q;
