Two trains left the station in the same direction. The first came out at 7 o’clock at a speed of 50 km / h, and the second – at 9 o’clock at a speed of 70 km / h. How far from the station will the second train catch up with the first?

1. We take as x the distance from the station to the place where the train traveling at a higher speed will catch up with the other.
2. Considering that the train is following at a speed of 50 km / h, it was on the way longer than the other by
9 – 7 = 2 hours, let’s make the equation:
x / 50 – x / 70 = 2;
20x / 3500 = 2;
20x = 7000;
x = 350 kilometers.
Answer: the distance from the station to the place where the next train with a higher speed will catch up with another 350 kilometers.
