Two trains left to meet each other from two cities, the distance between which is 782 km. The speed of the first is 52 km / h, and of the second 61 km / h. After passing 416 km, the first train met the second. How long one of the trains left before the other.

1. We calculate how many hours it took for the first train to reach the meeting point with another train:
416: 52 = 8 hours.
2. Calculate the distance traveled by the second train to the meeting point:
782 – 416 = 366 kilometers.
3. We calculate how many hours it took for the second train to reach the meeting point with the first train:
366: 61 = 6 hours.
4. We calculate how many hours the first train set off earlier:
8 – 6 = 2 hours.
Answer: the first train left its station 2 hours earlier than the second.
