Types of root modifications and their characteristics.

1. Accumulative roots perform the function of storing substances. There are 2 types: root crops (the main root and the lower parts of the stem are involved in the formation), root tubers (lateral and adventitious roots);

2. attachment roots (develop from adventitious ones) help plants to attach to various substrates;

3. respiratory for breathing of the root system (in swamps);

4. air absorbs rainwater in the tropics;

5. support roots (to increase the support area).
