Was Napoleon Bonaparte really a great military leader?

Before his infamous invasion of Russia, Napoleon was considered a great commander not only in his homeland, but even in Europe and in Russia itself. After starting his career with the lowest of the officers’ ranks, he rose to the very top, becoming the emperor of France and the winner of dozens of armies.
But after the so-called Russian company, a series of failures began to pursue him. At first he lost the army in Russia, then he was deprived of the throne and exiled. And after his return, he was able to stay in power for only 100 days. But having lost to Waterloo, Napoleon himself finally resigned himself to the fact that he had so failed to become the greatest of the generals.
