Was the Greek school available to all children? What could they be taught in it?

The Greek school was not available to all children. Only boys from the age of 7 attended school, and there were no schools for girls, because their mothers taught them about housekeeping. At school, boys learned to draw, read and write, and count. Particular attention in the educational process was occupied by the verses of Greek poets, especially Homer. Children learned by heart his works “Iliad” and “Odyssey”. Music lessons were also compulsory in the Greek school. Children sang in a choir and learned to play musical instruments.
