Was US Civil War Inevitable?

Civil war was inevitable in the first place due to the long and bitter question of slavery. Over the years, slavery has divided North and South, creating more and more sectionalism. Many compromises have been used to prolong the peace between the two regions. These compromises were futile, especially because of the expansion westward and how the expansion of slavery was triggered. The South separated from the Union and this contributed to the fact that the war was really inevitable, no matter how the parties tried to prevent it.
