Water storage fabric.

The storage of water in tissues is important mainly for plants that grow in arid regions. The supply of water in tissues for such plants helps them survive. In such cases, the storage tissue has a number of adaptations to fulfill its function. The cells of the tissue storing water are large, often rounded, not tightly adjacent to each other, thin-walled. They do not play the role of photosynthesis, therefore they are devoid of chloroplasts. The internal fluid has a jelly-like appearance, as it contains a lot of mucus, which contributes to better retention of the stored fluid.
