| We merged two solutions of 500 g of 10% and 300 g of 20% to determine the mass fraction of the newly obtained solution.
1.Let’s find the masses of substances in the initial solutions:
m1 (in-va) = w1 (in-va) * m1 (solution): 100% = 10% * 500: 100% = 50 g;
m2 (in-va) = w2 (in-va) * m2 (solution): 100% = 20% * 300: 100% = 60 g;
2. find the total mass of the solute:
mtotal (in-va) = m1 (in-va) + m2 (in-va) = 50 + 60 = 110 g;
mtotal (solution) = m1 (solution) + m2 (solution) = 500 + 300 = 800 g;
3.determine the mass fraction in the resulting solution:
wtotal (in-va) = (mtot (in-va): mtot (solution)) * 100% = (110: 800) * 100% = 13.75%.
Answer: 13.75%.
