What achievements did the Catholic Western Europe of the Middle Ages become famous for?

Universities appeared in Western Europe at that time. The oldest – in the XI-XIII centuries, and then until the end of the XV century, university education covered a huge territory, from Uppsala in the north (near Stockholm) to the island of Sicily, from Lisbon to Edinburgh and to Budapest and Krakow.

In Europe at that time, the following were invented:

Typography and, as a result, printing houses appeared in the second half of the 15th century.
Glass mirror.
Glasses.
Mechanical watches.
Powder armament, cannons began to be used for the siege and defense of cities and even installed on ships.
Blast furnace.
Kulevrina (a type of cannon) and an arquebus (a gun).
Hygrometer.
