What are the achievements of ancient Russian architecture and painting?

Old Russian architecture was famous for its monumental architecture, wooden domes and grace of buildings. The houses had the form of carved chambers with towers and consisted of several floors. The fortresses were also made of wood. Later, architecture began to borrow ideas from Byzantine culture, using stone in construction. Artists in Russia change the “style” of what is depicted in the paintings – the creations become softer, corresponding to the Slavic culture. Icon painting is developing.
