What are the advantages of the Phoenician alphabet over the writing of Egypt or Mesopotamia?

The writing of ancient Egypt was hieroglyphic, and the writing of Mesopotamia (Mesopotamia) was cuneiform. In either case, each element of the letter meant a separate word, of which there were several hundred.
The advantage of the Phoenician alphabet was that any word could be written out of a finite number of characters (22). On the basis of the Phoenician alphabet, almost all modern alphabetic scripts of the world were formed.
