What are the advantages of the Phoenician alphabet over the writing of Egypt?

Its advantage over Egyptian hieroglyphs is that in Phoenician writing, each symbol meant one syllable, while hieroglyphs meant words or concepts. Thus, the alphabet was easier to learn and use, which is why the Phoenicians were the leading trading nation of antiquity. Later this letter was adopted by the Greeks, from them – the Romans, the Goths, and in the 10th century – the Slavs.
