What are the benefits of angiosperms over gymnosperms?

Angiosperms, or flowering, plants are currently the most common, as they are more adapted to modern conditions.

The name itself speaks of their advantages over gymnosperms. In angiosperms, the seed is inside the fetus, that is, covered, protected from adverse conditions. The embryo is supplied with a supply of nutrients.

In gymnosperms, the seeds are “holo”, that is, openly on the scales of cones. The second name – Flowering – indicates the presence of a specialized organ of sexual reproduction – a flower from which fruits develop. Gymnosperms do not develop.

Flowers are pollinated in different ways: by wind, animals, water; some are characterized by self-pollination. The flower is adapted to attract insects, pollination by wind, water.

A special organ, a pistil, catches pollen during pollination. Gymnosperms do not have such an organ. Gymnosperms are only wind-pollinated.

Among flowering plants, there are various life forms: grasses, shrubs, trees, and in gymnosperms, life forms are only trees.

For flowering plants, double fertilization is characteristic.
