Risorgimento, can be called as a struggle for an independent and united Italy, from foreign invaders. The meaning of the revival of a united Italy was to unite the numerous principalities and regions of Italy that were controlled by the Austrian Empire. The revolutionary movements were quite successful in northern Italy.
