What are the causes of the turmoil?

The causes of the Time of Troubles were long-term political and social processes that originate from the middle of the 16th century. Thus, we can name such main factors that served as the beginning of the turmoil:

1) The Livonian War drained the treasury and, in fact, ruined the state;

2) The oprichnina became the cause of political instability in the state, as well as the cause of the ruin of a significant part of the farms;

3) In 1598, the son of Ivan the Terrible died, which became the reason for the suppression of the Rurik dynasty.
