What are the characteristics of wind-pollinated plants? Give examples.

Wind-pollinated plants often bloom before their leaves open. Flowers of these plants have morphological features, they are often collected in dense inflorescences (panicle). The pistils and stamens of such flowers also have peculiarities, the stigmas of the pistils are long, branched, the anthers of the stamens are located on long filaments hanging from the flower. There are a lot of flowers, they are small, a lot of pollen is also produced, it is small and light. All of these plant features allow flowers to be pollinated by the wind, hence the name – wind-pollinated. Examples: alder, birch, oak, walnut, cereals, plantain, sedge.
