What are the common and what are the differences between the policies of Charles 1 and Philip 2 in Spain?

This is the 16th century. Under Charles I, there was no military confrontation with England and the Spaniards conquered the Aztec and Inca states in the western hemisphere, and under Philip, on the contrary, they fought with England and unsuccessfully in 1588 (the defeat of the “Invincible Armada”).

Under Philip in 1580, a union with Portugal was concluded, it lasted until 1640 (he himself died in 1598), there was no such union under Charles.

Under Philip, the Spaniards tried to suppress the revolution in the Netherlands (Duke of Alba) and fought against the Ottoman Empire (won the Battle of Lepanto).

Under Charles, a criminal code was adopted, which was in effect until the 18th century, and under Philip, Madrid and the new Escorial palace became the king’s residence.

Under Philip there were no wars with France, but the external debt increased.
