The substance has a dense lamellar structure (for which it is also called dense), resembling a complex of cylinders placed one inside the other. The plates are formed by the intercellular substance, between them are the cells of the bone tissue. Channels for blood vessels are located between the layers of the compact substance. The greater the load on the bone, the greater the layer of compact substance in it.
