A feature of European feudalism was its formation after the collapse of the tribal system. It was a society of inequality and a hierarchy of servers and masters of masters, but not slavery and aristocracy. In Europe, relations were formed where the peasant was more dependent on his feudal lord, who owned the land that he cultivated, than on the king or duke, who represented the highest power in the state. For a long time there was a rule that a vassal – a dependent of my subordinate did not obey me, but after the onset of absolutism, these rules were abolished.
