A huge number of animals have evolved to survive in the aquatic environment. There are two main types of aquatic habitat. Salt water, marine habitats, includes vast oceans and seas and feeds on fresh water from lakes, rivers, and streams. Marine and freshwater habitats are found in salt water. Animals, of course, live in both freshwater and salty habitats. However, some species specialize in only one of these habitats.
