What are the features of the religions of the ancient world?

The main feature of every religion is belief in supernatural powers. In the ancient world, people believed in the existence of many gods – the patrons of all phenomena. They had pantheons of especially significant characters and a special system. In polytheistic religions, the belief persisted that each god controls a specific natural or climatic condition. At the head of all was usually either the sun god or the god of thunder and lightning. They worshiped them, made sacrifices, prayed and respected their patrons.
