What are the main causes and consequences of river floods?

A flood is a sudden rise in the water level in a body of water. The main causes of floods include:

– Increased precipitation. For example, rivers in India during wet monsoons. It can rain for weeks without stopping.

– Melting snow and ice in the mountains. Mountain rivers, which, in addition to water, can carry a lot of rocks.
