What are the main differences between a sperm and an egg?

Anatomy. The egg cell has a nucleus surrounded by cytoplasm, which is guarded by transparent and follicular cells. The sperm cell consists of a head, middle and tail.

Production. Eggs are produced in a woman’s ovaries. Sperm are produced in a man’s testicles.

The size. The ovum is approximately 0.15 to 0.2 mm. The sperm is very small compared to the eggs. It is also considered to be the smallest cell in the body.

Metabolism. The egg is more active than the sperm.
