What are the main prerequisites for the formation of the ancient Russian state.

The first prerequisite for the creation of Kievan Rus was the need for protection from external enemies – nomadic tribes and Vikings. The second prerequisite was the trade route “From the Varangians to the Greeks”. First, the prince, who controlled as much of the route as possible, received more advantages. Secondly, it was beneficial to the Byzantines – a single state on a large section of the route required fewer duties than a gathering of small tribal leaders.
