What are the main stages of molecular hybridization in the selection of microorganisms? What is the role of a DNA donor? How will a hybrid bacterial cell multiply?
The vast majority of bacteria (with the exception of actinomycetes and filamentous cyanobacteria) are unicellular. By the shape of the cells, they can be rounded (cocci), rod-shaped (bacilli, clostridia, pseudomonads), convoluted (vibrios, spirillae, spirochetes), less often – stellate, theatrical, cubic, C – or O – shaped. The shape determines the ability of bacteria such as attachment to the surface, mobility, absorption of nutrients. It has been noted, for example, that oligotrophs, that is, bacteria that live with a low content of nutrients in the medium, tend to increase the surface-to-volume ratio, for example, through the formation of outgrowths (so-called protrusions).
