What are the modified roots? What role do they play in plant life?

The main functions of the root are to hold the plant in the soil and absorb water and minerals. If other functions were needed, root modifications occurred in plants:
– root crops (beets, radishes) and root tubers (sweet potatoes) – a supply of nutrients;
– hook roots (ivy) and support roots (corn) – support for the stem;
– aerial roots (orchid) – absorption of moisture from the air;
– respiratory roots – root respiration in bog plants;
– sucker roots of parasite plants (dodder, Peter’s cross).
