| Mountain Jews mainly lived in the eastern part of the North Caucasus, as well as in the north of Azerbaijan. As a rule, they lived in closed communities in cities – including Grozny and Nalchik. In Dagestan, Derbent was traditionally considered a Mountain Jewish city. The most famous mountain-Jewish settlement in Azerbaijan is Krasnaya Gorka.
