What are the reasons for the fall of the Western Roman Empire?

Quite a few reasons contributed to the fall of the Western Roman Empire. One of the most important was the unstable situation in the government. There was no strong ruler who could control the situation, and not engage in plundering and attempts to authoritarianly gain a foothold in power. Another reason was the raids of the barbarians who plundered the provinces, and the lack of a combat-ready army only made the situation worse. The uneven distribution of economic resources contributed to the decline in trade.
