The principality of Lithuania was formed in the years 1230-1240. Its founder was Prince Mindaugas, who, under his command, was able to unite most of the Baltic tribes. The reason for the emergence of a single principality was an external threat from the Livonian Order, which at that time was gaining great power. In addition, the union made it possible to get rid of the feudal fragmentation.
