What are the reasons for the Phoenician colonization? Why did the Phoenicians establish colonies?
We are talking about the first half of the 1st millennium BC. The Phoenicians lived on the territory of modern Lebanon, they did not have such an agricultural civilization around rivers and irrigation facilities, as in Egypt or Mesopotamia, therefore, an extra population appeared (after all, you do not need to build canals and fight). The seaside position and the availability of a sufficient amount of timber contributed to the development of shipbuilding and navigation. The ships could move colonists throughout the Mediterranean basin. Colonies were created with the aim of developing trade, for example, in North Africa and Europe. Some of the inhabitants of Phoenician cities also moved there, for example, the colonists from Tire founded Carthage.
