What are the reasons for the reformation in Europe in the 16th century?

There were several reasons for the Reformation. First of all, by the beginning of the 16th century, a new class had already begun to take shape in Europe – the bourgeoisie, which needed a completely different church, stricter and cheaper. The splendor and high cost of the Catholic Church, its endless extortions have already weighed down the representatives of the new stratum of society. In addition, the Catholic priesthood itself, mired in debauchery and other immoral acts, did everything to undermine its authority in the eyes of the parishioners. That is at least the sale of indulgences in Germany by representatives of the Pope. Thinking people like Martin Luther, who saw all this, could not stand aside and be silent, because the crisis of the church and spiritual life was evident.
