What are the salivary glands?

There are three pairs of salivary glands: parotid, submandibular, and sublingual. The name of the glands speaks for itself about their location in the human body. The ducts open into the oral cavity. Normally, the glands produce 1.5-2 liters of saliva per day. Saliva can be released reflexively at the sight of food and from its smell. The center of salivation is in the medulla oblongata.
