What are the similarities between the Greek polis and the Roman civitas?

The Greek polis and the Roman civitas were similar in the very essence of their organization, based on democratic principles, expressed:

in the freedom of citizens, their equal rights, protected by legislation, religion;

in collective (popular assemblies) the development of social and life norms with justice, the right to vote, the choice of officials, common customs, friendships, sacred places, common forums.
