What are the similarities between the nuclei of atoms of isotopes?

An isotope differs only in the number of neutrons it has. All isotopes of an element have the same atomic number (number of electrons / protons), so they have the same number of electrons / protons and therefore similar chemical properties.

However, heavier isotopes react faster to chemical reactions. For a small atom like hydrogen, the difference is significant. The total mass of the heavier atom does not change so much, and the rates of chemical reactions are more similar.
