World War I ended in 1918. Due to hostilities, the situation of many states deteriorated. In the political sphere, four empires collapsed: Russian, German, Austro-Hungarian, Ottoman. Germany suffered massive destruction and lost its integrity. Instead of a monarchy, a republic was established there. Nationalist movements began to develop in the defeated country.
